Fees for Civil Paper Service

The following is a guide for the amount of Mileage fees required to serve a typical document near the community listed below:

Most civil documents served: $15.00 fee plus mileage
Service of subpoenas: $20.00 fee plus mileage
Service of Notice of Garnishment: $30.00 fee plus mileage

All documents served will have the mileage added.
Please be aware the mileage fee is an estimate and can be more than the amount listed.

Additional Fees

MORE THAT 1 PERSON TO SERVE AT SAME ADDRESS:
fee is indicated above, plus $10.00 for each additional person served.

MORE THAT 1 PERSON TO SERVE AT DIFFERENT ADDRESSES:
fee is indicated above for each address.

GARNISHMENTS:
The fee for serving garnishments is $30.00 plus mileage. The service and mileage fee will be added to the amount of the judgment to be garnished.

If you have the Sheriff garnish a bank, most banks require (besides the defendant's name) another identifier such as a social security number or an account number. If you do not have an additional identifier, the Sheriff will still serve the garnishment, but your chances of receiving any funds on the garnishment are reduced dramatically.

In Iowa, garnishments expire in 120 days. After expiration, any funds received will be sent to the appropriate Clerk of Court. Federal and State laws determine the maximum amount, if any, which can be garnished from a defendant's paycheck and annually.
